Executives elected to terms on LSA Board
May 7, 2008 – Baltimore, MD – Four executives were elected to the national Board of Lutheran Services in America, the Baltimore-based alliance of two Lutheran denominations and their 300 social ministry organizations, during its annual meeting April 24 in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) appointed one member to LSAs national Board.
Three Board members were elected for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2008:
Alan Erdman is President and CEO of Lutheran Family and Childrens Services of Missouri. In 2007, LFCS was voted Best Place to Work by the St. Louis Business Journal. Pastor Erdman holds an S.T.M. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and a MDiv in Theology from Seminex, St. Louis. He is a licensed clinical social worker in Missouri and a licensed marriage and family counselor in Maine. He is an adjunct faculty member at St. Louis University.
Ted W. Goins, Jr. is President and Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Services for the Aging, Inc., a ministry of the North Carolina Synod of the ELCA that provides multiple services for seniors and adults with disabilities. Mr. Goins is a certified nursing assistant and nursing home administrator. He began his career with Lutheran Services for the Aging in 1990 and was named president in 2000. Mr. Goins is a graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College.
Kurt Senske is Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Social Services of the South, a multi-faceted, multi-state, social service agency, based in Austin, Texas. Dr. Senske holds a law degree from the University of Illinois, an MA in International Relations from Schiller International University in Paris, France, and a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to working at LSS, Dr. Senske served as Assistant to the President at Concordia University at Austin. He also practiced law in Chicago, Illinois.
Elected to fill a two-year unexpired term, July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2010 was Linda Timmons, President and Chief Operating Officer (CEO, effective July 1, 2008) of Omaha-based Mosaic, with 40 agencies providing services to more than 3,700 people with disabilities. Previously, Ms. Timmons was Senior Vice President of Program Services at Bethpage and President and CEO of Bethpage Mission West. She holds a Master's degree in Human Services from St. Edward's University in Austin.
Appointed as a representative to the LSA Board from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was Robert J. Tuttle, a Professor of Law and David R. and Sherry Kirschner Berz Research Professor of Law and Religion at The George Washington University School of Law. Tuttle holds an MA from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago; JD from The George Washington University; and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia
