C1: Updates from the ELCA
This breakout session will provide the opportunity for informal conversation with Rev. Dr. Rebecca Larson, Executive Director of the program unit for Church in Society of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Topics will include changes and challenges within the ELCA in light of decisions taken at their 2009 churchwide assembly, new social policy initiatives on human disabilities, mental health and criminal justice, accreditation process matters, and the implications of all of these for Lutheran social ministry.

Participants will review a model for organizational life cycles and will assess their own organization's stage and context. Using the model, participants will explore what the organization needs from its board and senior staff members and what that might mean for current leadership.

C5: Trends in the Privatization of Child Welfare
Join Lutheran colleagues to explore how the privatization of child welfare is being tackled in a variety of ways. From performance based contracting to managed child welfare, leaders will share what they have learned. This participatory session will provide an opportunity to share experiences, network and explore future work together.
