The agenda spans a wide variety of topics including workforce issues, implementation of the HCBS settings rule, crisis services for individuals with ID/DD, as well as updates from DN work groups and member sharing.
Chris Stevenson, President & CEO of LSA-DN member Cedar Lake, will present on their bold new culture-building initiative called Brand New Day (BND). August 2, 2012 marked the beginning of a new way of thinking for their organization that will forever change how Cedar Lake views and supports its direct care workforce. At the BND celebration, their direct care staff received official designation as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Cedar Lake's focus on the creation of a DSP-centric organization is to ensure the people they support live exceptional lives.
Key staff members from Tennessee's Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and the Bureau of TennCare, the state Medicaid agency, will review their CMS-approved statewide HCBS transition plan and discuss their road to this approval. Tennessee is the first and only state to receive approval of their statewide transition plan to comply with the HCBS Settings Rule from CMS. CMS points out that "the state has laid out a comprehensive validation process for the site-specific assessment involving managed care organizations" and other providers. The plan includes "a summary of the outcomes of the site-specific assessments and an overview of, and timeline for, the plans for site-specific remediation," as well as "a detailed plan for identifying settings that are presumed to have institutional characteristics, a plan for evaluating and applying for heightened scrutiny, a plan for relocating beneficiaries in the event that a setting cannot or will not come into compliance with the federal requirements, and a plan for ongoing monitoring of continued compliance."
Staff from LSA-DN member Mount Olivet Rolling Acres will introduce their Metro Crisis Coordination Program (MCCP). The program provides crisis intervention and coordination of crisis resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. MCCP works with individuals, private providers and public agencies in the Twin Cities metropolitan area to prevent crises and provide appropriate behavioral interventions and support.

In our continued effort to learn more about and from the work of LSA-DN member organizations, Cedar Lake is offering an optional tour of several of their residential and day sites along with discussion and Q&A with Cedar Lake staff. The group will see Kentucky's only licensed small 4-bed ICF/IDD's recently opened by Cedar Lake. We will then visit a couple of Cedar Lake's 3-bed waiver homes. The final stop will be at Cedar Lake's Enrichment Center where transitional training takes place to competitive employment services.
