Ken Daly, an accomplished executive with a career spanning five decades and a new member of the LSA Board of Directors, believes that curiosity and passion are the keys to success.
"Live life through question marks," says Daly. "When you end with a period, you’re done."
Throughout his life, Daly sought to support and develop people who were working towards ambitious goals. As an executive at KPMG and as CEO of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), he built teams and mentored the next generation of leaders. "I look for people with that spark in their eye and ask, ‘how can I help them achieve?’"
Daly looks for that spark in the organizations he supports as well. "I look for groups that are made of the right clay," he says. "I want to support people and organizations that are doing the right things to help people in real ways." In his view, LSA is one of those organizations with the ability to lead and impact the communities in which our members work.
"LSA has a much bigger footprint than most people realize," says Daly. "It is the voice of Lutheran social ministry in the United States and brings together this rich fabric of service providers providing over $21 billion in services to 1 in 50 Americans every year."
In addition to the size and scope of the organization, Daly believes that the national office’s location on Capitol Hill allows LSA to effectively advocate for the policies that impact the organization’s members and the communities and people which they serve. "Lawmakers listen to constituents," he says, "and I can’t think of another nonprofit with the breadth and depth of constituent voices that LSA has."
Daly says that he gives his time, talent and treasure to LSA because the organization actively brings together the network that can respond to the most pressing challenges in our communities. "That is the work that can make a difference. That is the way we can make a change. And by supporting LSA we can contribute to that mission."
"LSA is blessed to have Ken Daly’s expertise, experience and commitment," says Charlotte Haberaecker. "It is through contributions and service of our faithful partners giving time, talent and treasure that LSA can strengthen our Lutheran tradition of service, uncovering opportunities that support our members in transforming the lives of people and strengthening communities."
