An upcoming complimentary webinar on Friday, September 5th from 2-3 pm ET will focus on the topic: "How Our Eyes Age: The Impact on Everyday Life."

Part of a "Conversations with Grantmakers in Aging" (GIA) series, the webinar will provide a useful overview of vision and aging issues, and will be of particular interest to anyone involved with services for older adults, both on a professional and personal level, as well as to foundations and funders who fund work with the health sector.

Chris Girkin, MD, MSPH, Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Ophthalmology, The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), will provide an overview of the basic changes to the eyes with aging.

Cynthia Owsley, PhD., MSPH, Professor in the UAB Dept. Of Ophthalmology, will discuss the impact of aging-related vision changes on everyday activities such as reading the mail, shopping, cooking, walking safely and driving.

Both speakers will offer suggestions for healthy behaviors that can help protect one's eyesight. Torrey DeKeyser, Executive Director of the Eyesight Foundation of Alabama, will offer a perspective of how one local foundation is working to address vision issues of older adults in the community.
