Lutheran Services in America, Incorporated (LSA) has announced the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. Reverend John Barton Day, executive director of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) Office of National Mission, and Reverend Donald J. Fondow, district president of the Minnesota North District of The LCMS, joined as Class B Board Directors as of August 10, 2015.
As Board Directors, they will play active roles in guiding one of the nation's largest health and human services networks, representing Lutheran social ministry organizations throughout the U.S. The LSA network is listed as number 20 on the Philanthropy 400's list of the nation's largest charitable organizations.
About Rev. Bart Day
Rev. Bart Day serves as the executive director of the LCMS Office of National Mission. In his role, Rev. Day oversees all national mission functions of the ministries based at the church body's headquarters in St. Louis, MO, which includes over 17 programmatic ministries that support districts, congregations, schools, and workers of the synod. He previously served as associate pastor at Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas and concurrently served as headmaster at Memorial Lutheran School. Rev. Day currently serves on the board of directors of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) and The Friends of Westfield House.
About Rev. Donald Fondow
Rev. Donald J. Fondow serves as the President of the Minnesota North District of The LCMS. Following graduation from seminary in 1979, Rev. Fondow served at St. John in Park Rapids, MN, and in 2000, joined the Minnesota North District as Mission and Ministry Facilitator (Division of Missions and Congregational Outreach). Rev. Fondow is the Recipient of the 1998 John E. Herrmann Memorial Stewardship Award presented by the District Stewardship Executives of The LCMS and in 2006 was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters Degree from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn. He also serves on the Council of Presidents Program Committee and in 2013 served on the Synodical Convention Resolution 5-14A Task Force.
Rev. Day replaces outgoing LSA Board member Rev. John Fale, who has been called to serve in a new role as the Executive Director, The Office of International Mission for The LCMS; Rev. Fondow replaces Rev. Greg Walton, president of The LCMS Florida-Georgia District.
