Election Resources
Lutheran social ministry organizations and other nonprofit 501(3) (c) organizations are encouraged to assist citizens to exercise their right to vote. Many resources are available to organizations wanting to know about the do’s and don’ts of electoral activities, IRS rules, voting rights for persons with disabilities, ballot measures, online voter education and other related information. Below is a list of resources which could be helpful in this civic engagement activity.
The LSA Public Policy Advocacy Toolkit provides planning tools for LSA members engaged in advocacy and electoral activities. IRS guidelines, do’s and don’ts and other practical considerations are provided. The toolkit also includes an excellent resources section which can be duplicated and used in training with others. The toolkit is available for $40 in electronic and hard copy format from Evia Cozart, 800-664-3848.
Called to be a Public Church: 2008 ELCA Voting and Civic Participation Guide is a document written by the ELCA as a guide to encourage, empower and equip Lutherans to engage responsibly in the 2008 election cycle. The guide is intended to encourage congregations to participate in voter registration drives, voter mobilization campaigns and poll monitoring. The guide also contains nonpartisan issue briefs rooted in Lutheran theological tradition and grounded in ELCA social policy. The document can be downloaded at no cost from www.elca.org/advocacy.
