Council for Human Resource Management Network Conference - Strengthening Tomorrow Through Organizational Competencies

Description: Join the Council for Human Resource Management (CHRM) for a program that will help you strengthen your culture. You will hear how to define and create the competencies you need for your team to be successful from an expert in the area, Dr. T.J. We will also have a panel of leaders from three Lutheran organizations talking about how they use the competencies to hire, orient, and keep the best team members. Innovation Tour and Breakfast

Description: Tour EastPoint Neighborhood, San Antonio's highly touted place-based initiative. Join LSA's Children Youth & Families Work Group for a bus tour to San Antonio's nationally recognized, award-winning place based initiative that integrates a Promise Neighborhood (education focused), a Choice neighborhood (housing focused) and a Promise Zone (economic development focused). Collectively, a broad array of partners are working toward common goals to improve the lives of those living in this historically underserved area. Meet with some of the initiative's leaders and partners, hear how this partnership came together, the lessons learned and how success is measured for the community and the individual families that live in it.
The tour is funded by the generous support of the Lutheran Services for Children Endowment (LSCE) of the ELCA Foundation. Please note: Breakfast is included on this tour and space is limited to the first 35 registrants.

Session description: Effecting policy change through targeted advocacy is complex. From the launch of a campaign to its implementation and sustainability, hear from groups with experience in each of these distinct stages. Learn how LSS of the South is building on its new identity and strategic focus to drive transformative change in breaking the cycle of child abuse. Examine a successful 2014 Minnesota initiative advocating rate increases for home and community based services, The 5% Campaign, and learn how advocates in Texas are working to sustain momentum around and support for the state's five-year Medicaid demonstration waiver - The Health Care Transformation and Quality Improvement Program - amid the ever-changing political landscape. This session covers the various approaches to and phases of a successful advocacy campaign, the lessons learned in each, and practical tips applicable to other states and initiatives.

Description: Due to popular demand, this session has been expanded to meet member interest. Members of the LSA Children Youth and Family Working Group are invited to join Dr. Laura Heintz, CEO of Stanford Youth Solutions, as she shares the story of their own organizational transformation. Attendees will break into smaller peer learning cohorts, led by Sarah Morrison from the Center for the Study of Social Policy, and Dr. Heintz, to gain insight for assessing the effectiveness of their own organizational practices. The San Antonio area is renowned for its natural and cultural history. In addition to the Alamo, there are multiple historic missions that provide an opportunity to explore the heritage of our nation's Spanish Colonial past and the lives of the mission communities and the indigenous people who inhabited the area.
Your tour includes:
Tour of Mission San Jose, known as the "Queen of the Missions," this is the largest of the San Antonio missions and was almost fully restored to its original design in the 1930s by the Works Projects Administration. It is home to "Rosa's Window," considered one of the finest pieces of Spanish Colonial ornamentation in the country.
Tour of San Juan Capistrano mission, which was originally founded in eastern Texas in 1716 and then transferred to its present location on the banks of the San Antonio River in 1731.
Tour of Mission Concepcion (full name: Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purisima Concepción de Acuña), America's oldest unrestored stone church (pictured). This handsome stone church was established in 1731 and dedicated in 1755, and appears very much as it did more than two centuries ago.
Cap your tour with a visit to Market Square, a traditional shopping district in downtown San Antonio and the largest Mexican shopping center in the city. Explore the wares at the many shops and stands and take in the sights, sounds and colors of this historic part of the city.
You're welcome to stay as long as you like at Market Square, which is located not far from the Hyatt Regency, or return to the hotel on the bus. The bus is scheduled to return to the Hyatt by 5:30 p.m.
