Three times a year, the LSA Disability Network (LSA-DN) gathers its members for planning, updates and inspiration on the work of serving persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 2016 winter meeting will be held in Carefree, Arizona, a serene and picturesque setting nestled in the desert foothills north of Phoenix.
The 2016 LSA-DN Winter Meeting will be taking a deep dive into the issues impacting the shortage of direct support professionals. Amy Hewitt, Director of Research and Training at the Center on Community Living for the University of Minnesota, will facilitate sharing of current DN member practices and benchmarking to other provider organizations and then a critical look at recruitment, selection, training and retention. We will then conclude with a facilitating sharing on next steps and methods to benchmark the results.
Amy is nationally recognized expert on the direct support workforce, speaking to disability groups across the country. She comes highly recommended by several LSA-DN member organizations and has and continues to work with both Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota and Community Involvement Programs (Rita Wiersma's organization and LSA-DN Associate Member) on research-based solutions to direct support workforce challenges.
The meeting will also include member sharing, updates on state implementation of the HCBS transition plans, PAT update, and more!

Building WellBeing: A New Narrative for Human Services Workshop
Prior to the 2016 LSA-DN Winter Meeting, we will be having an in-depth workshop to follow up on the reframing human services presentation at the 2015 LSA-DN Summer Meeting in Chicago. The workshop is optional and will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd from 1pm-5pm.
This hands-on workshop on the new frame for human services will equip leaders of Lutheran Services organizations to activate the frame elements in your communications. Join Ilsa Flanagan, Director National Reframing Initiative at the National Human Services Assembly to strategize the best ways to use our free online tools to better position your organization and its work with policy makers and funders resulting in effective social policy and increased funding for programs.
