By Hayley Johnson, Marketing & Communications Spring Intern
It is funny to think that a couple of weeks ago, I was at school in Moorhead, Minnesota anxiously awaiting the beginning of my adventure to Washington DC. Coming from a small town in the Midwest, DC seemed like an entirely different world, but luckily Mother Nature delivered an abundance of snow in my first week making me feel right at home! Although I was initially overwhelmed by the idea of starting a new semester here, as soon as I completed my orientation with Lutheran Services in America I instantly felt at ease.
In only a week the LSA staff has impressed me more than I ever could have imagined. Every person in each department is committed to the mission of LSA. They are all very kind and excited about the work they do for their members, which I find very inspiring.
Over the course of the next few months I will be working specifically with the Marketing and Communications team. Tania, Natalie, and Liliana have already made me feel more than welcome and continue to keep me busy preparing for LSA's big annual conference coming up in the next couple of months which I appreciate greatly!
An internship with Lutheran Services in America was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down when I applied in November. I have never been certain of what I wanted to do with my Political Science and Communication double major because they are many different paths you can take. One thing that I have always known is that caring for others and making a positive impact on the world is something I am passionate about, and Lutheran Services in America's mission and commitment to serving others felt like the right fit for me. This is an organization I am eager and proud to learn and grow from.
Each day when I walk to work and pass the Capitol, Library of Congress, and the Supreme Court building it seems almost surreal. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for a girl from small town Minnesota, and I hope that throughout my time with LSA I never forget what a true blessing it is. I am more than honored to have been welcomed into the LSA family and I am looking forward to seeing what this experience has in store for me!
