Senate Will Not Vote on Graham-Cassidy This Week

Thank Your For Your Advocacy!

On September 26, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that the Senate will not vote on the Graham-Cassidy amendment this week, effectively killing the proposal for now.
Thank you once again for your advocacy. You quickly mobilized and came out in force to show the importance of Medicaid in the lives of children, older adults, people with disabilities and those who love them. Your efforts allowed us to #SaveMedicaid. And we can celebrate this victory.
As always, we must remain vigilant. Senate leaders noted that they did not have the votes to pass Graham-Cassidy now, but that they would attempt to return to it or similar proposals at a later date. Many of the Senators who opposed Graham-Cassidy criticized the process used to advance the legislation rather than the policy substance. Now is the time to educate lawmakers on the “substance” of Medicaid – invite them to meet the people you support, talk to your direct support staff and learn about your mission. Members of Congress must know that Medicaid is not simply a cost to the federal budget…it’s real people in their communities.
Thank you once again. As always, please feel free to reach out to Lindsey Copeland, Director of Public Policy & Advocacy, at with any questions. We will keep you updated as the situation progresses in DC.
