Thank You: You Made it Happen! Senate Passes Coronavirus Relief Act

UPDATE: On March 27, 2020, President Trump  signed this bill into law.

By unanimous vote (96-0), the Senate late last night passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (H.R. 748 or “CARES Act”), a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill meant to blunt the severe impact the pandemic is making on businesses, individuals, and the economy overall.

Letter to Administrator Seema Verma at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services expressing Lutheran Services in America’s continued opposition to policies that would encourage, invite, or allow states to apply for block grants or per capita caps for their Medicaid programs that would necessitate limiting enrollment or cutting services.

Comments to the Department of Health and Human Services on Oklahoma's Medicaid waiver proposal
Urging the Department not to approve the harmful proposal, which includes per capita caps and work requirements, among other detrimental elements.

**UPDATE: On August 11, following a successful state ballot initiative in June to add Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act to the state constitution, the Oklahoma state Medicaid director asked to withdraw the state's waiver proposal.

Comments on a proposed rule by the Social Security Administration that would change the classification system used for, and the frequency of, continuing disability reviews for individuals receiving Social Security benefits. Lutheran Services in America has recommended that SSA rescind the proposed rule.

Lutheran Services in America is deeply concerned about negative consequences of the proposed rule and urges that it be withdrawn in its entirety.

Lutheran Services in America urged CMS to continue to promote flexibility and innovation, support value-based arrangements, ensure sufficient time to adjust to changes, add additional supplemental benefits, and consider allowing more specific targeting.

Public Charge Comments
Comments on the Department of Homeland Security’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Inadmissibility on Public Charge Grounds.  Lutheran Services in America urged the agency to rescind this which would put the health and well-being of millions of people at risk and instead craft policies that allow immigrant children and families to be healthy and safe.
