Congratulations to LSA member Bill Hanawalt for being named a White House Champion of Change [1]

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Congratulations to Bill Hanawalt, the Executive Director of Peace Community Center, for being one of nine people nationally selected as a “White House Champion of Change for Summer Opportunity.” Bill was chosen because of his commitment to advocating for summer learning, meals and violence prevention in Tacoma, Washington. Peace Community Center is a member of the LSA network and Bill has served on our board.

Bill emphasizes the importance of summer learning opportunities for all students and has been actively dedicated to this issue since starting his position as Executive Director of Peace Community Center 15 years ago. Him and his team serve over 350 students every year and provide the opportunity for summer programming for 200 elementary, middle and high school students. Hanawalt stresses that this honor is not just for himself but also for "all who have worked, volunteered and made Peace Community Center."

Congratulations and thank you to Bill Hanawalt and Peace Community Center for your commitment to public service!
